2. Declutter and take what you need

The last thing that you want to do is to take stuff that you will not be needing to your new place. This is the perfect opportunity for you to declutter all of the extra junk in your house that you do not need. Ensure that you take measurements of the new space and get rid of furniture that might not fit.

3. Moving boxes

4. Label each of the boxes

Labeling and colour coding a box according to which room it will be going to can save you tons of time when unpacking. Use different coloured masking tape or use different colourd felt pens. When you are moved in you can also use the same colour tape or tape a piece of paper at the entrance of each move to allow for the movers to place boxes in the right rooms.

5. Pack an essential personal bag

When you first move in, it is unlikely that you will want to unpack and do laundry and rampage through all your stuff. Packing a personal back with items for 1 or 2 nights will give you peace of mind and a bit of relaxation to enjoy your new place. Pack a pair of pj’s, toothbrush, clothing for the day and other essential items.

6. Use plastic wrap to avoid leaks

Anything that has the potential to spill needs to be wrapped in either a bag or plastic wrap. A shampoo bottle that seems tightly sealed may somehow figure out a way to open and spill throughout the rest of your items.

7. Ensure the breakables are bundled up

Use plenty of newspaper and padding for anything that has the potential of breaking. Never place these items freely in a box. Spend the time packing these items correctly to ease the stress at the end of the day.
